AB 1013: Peace officer training: behavioral health.

The bill aims to improve peace officer training by requiring officers to learn about behavioral health and law enforcement interactions with individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability, and substance use disorders. The training will be provided by partnering with local departments of behavioral health, community-based organizations, or nonprofit organizations. The training is mandatory for officers with a rank of supervisor or below who are assigned to patrol duties or supervise officers with patrol duties. The state will reimburse local agencies and school districts for the costs of implementing this training if it is deemed a state-mandated requirement.
