AB 1042: The Cannella Environmental Farming Act of 1995: Managed Honeybee Health Program.
This bill aims to enhance the health and well-being of managed honeybees in California, necessary for the economic viability of the state's agriculture. The department of food and agriculture will establish and oversee a managed honeybee health program in consultation with a scientific advisory panel. The program will provide grants to eligible recipients for projects that directly and indirectly support honeybee health, including research, extension, and technical assistance. The department will determine priorities for the program and consider project applicant criteria, including those developed to address program priorities. Nonstate, federal, and private funds can be collected for the program, which will be deposited into a special fund within the climate smart agriculture account.
