AB 1211: CalFresh: maintenance of benefit level.
This bill aims to maintain the level of California's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Calfresh) benefits at the same level as on January 20, 2025. The state department of social services is required to ensure that Calfresh benefits remain at least at the level established by the federal government under the Thrifty Food Plan. If federal funding is insufficient, the department must implement provisions using state funds to maintain the required level. The bill also requires the department to conduct a feasibility study on increasing the eligibility and benefits of the Calfresh program. The study's findings will be reported to the legislature and the joint legislative budget committee by January 1, 2027. The provisions relating to the study and report will be repealed on January 1, 2031.
