AB 1260: Electricity: renewable energy subscription programs.
The bill aims to revise and recast the requirements for customer renewable energy subscription programs. It specifies that avoided costs include certain avoided cost values and imposes additional requirements, such as capping facility generation capacity at 5 megawatts and program capacity at 5 gigawatts. The program must also end after 7 years when either limit is reached. The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) must adopt or modify the community renewable energy program to ensure consistency with certain requirements by September 1, 2026. The PUC must also evaluate the program every two years to ensure consistency with its requirements. Community choice aggregators and electric service providers must notify the PUC within 180 days of adopting or modifying the program.
