California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified August 15, 2026

What AB 1746 does, verified August 15, 2026

This bill aims to improve the childcare services for low-income families receiving CalWORKs benefits. It requires applicants and recipients to be informed about paid childcare options in writing and verbally, and to acknowledge this information. The county must approve, deny, or request additional information within 10 working days when a childcare request form is submitted. The Department of Social Services must implement these provisions by June 1, 2027, or when regulations are adopted. The bill extends the date when written notices must be provided to recipients from January 1, 2021, to January 1, 2028. The state will reimburse local agencies and school districts for costs mandated by the state if the Commission on State Mandates determines that the bill contains such costs.
