AB 1830: Ignition interlock devices.
This bill extends the operation of existing provisions related to ignition interlock devices (iids) indefinitely and makes them a permanent state-mandated program. The bill requires a court to order the installation of an iid upon a person's first criminal conviction for driving under the influence. The iid provider will be responsible for absorbing the remaining costs not paid by the person. The bill also requires the department of motor vehicles to include additional information in its annual report to the legislature about individuals required to have a functioning, certified iid installed.
