AB 1847: Mortgage forbearance: state of emergency: wildfire.
This bill aims to provide relief to homeowners affected by wildfires. It would extend the period of mortgage forbearance from 12 months to 36 months and the deadline for requesting forbearance from January 7, 2027, to January 7, 2029. During this period, mortgage servicers would be required to offer borrowers the option to defer repayment of forborne amounts to the end of the loan term. The bill would also modify the crime of perjury and impose a state-mandated local program. Additionally, the bill would exempt certain costs from state reimbursement requirements.
