California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified August 15, 2026

What AB 2216 does, verified August 15, 2026

This bill expands the area covered by the conservation agency to include the valley, and renames the agency to the valley and delta conservancy. The agency's name, fund, and partners are also updated accordingly. Two additional liaison advisers are added to provide guidance from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy and the San Joaquin River Conservancy. The agency is required to allocate funds only for valley-specific activities if there is a corresponding appropriation. The conservancy can now partner with and award grants and loans to tribal organizations. A new valley program is established to support environmental protection and economic well-being for valley residents.
