This bill aims to expand the California Confidentiality of Medical Information Act. It would prohibit the disclosure of medical information without authorization, except in certain situations. A violation of this law could result in a misdemeanor and economic loss or personal injury to the patient. The bill requires businesses that store or maintain medical information to develop capabilities and policies to limit user access privileges and segregate sensitive information. These businesses must also enable these security features by July 1, 2024, to comply with the law.
