AB 2478: Kinship family approval.

This bill would establish a kinship family approval process to approve relatives, nonrelative extended family members, and extended family members of an Indian child to provide care for a child placed by a county child welfare department or a probation department. The process would require counties to provide information about approval processes and options for the child and family. The bill would also make certain personal identifying information, written evaluation reports, and court proceedings related to kinship families confidential. The bill would authorize courts to place children with kinship families, regardless of the status of any criminal records or other factors, if the court finds that the placement does not pose a risk to the child's health and safety.
