AB 261: Fire safety: fire hazard severity zones: State Fire Marshal.
This bill aims to amend fire safety regulations in California. The state fire marshal will no longer base fire hazard severity zone determinations solely on risk mitigation activities. Instead, the fire marshal will be able to consult with various entities, including public agencies, tribes, and project applicants, to gather information on wildfire safety improvements and actions that may impact fire hazards. The fire marshal will provide a written response to these entities, which will be publicly posted online. Entities can also submit information on their wildfire safety efforts, which will be considered in future reviews. The fire marshal may require a fee from entities that provide information to cover costs associated with these processes.
