AB 2701: Domestic Violence Offender Registration Act.

This bill, the domestic violence offender registration act, requires the department to create a database to store and share information about persons convicted of a registrable offense. The offender must register certain information, including their place of birth and current address, with the law enforcement agency having jurisdiction over their residence. The offender can seek removal from the registry after completing a specified term if they demonstrate rehabilitation or exoneration. Local agencies and the court must create a database to store information received from offenders. The bill creates both civil and criminal penalties for the misuse of information disclosed, including a 5-year prison sentence for committing a felony. Failure to comply with registration requirements is punishable by up to one year in county jail. The bill declares its provisions to be severable.
