AB 399: Coastal resources: coastal development permits: blue carbon demonstration projects.
This bill aims to add new provisions to the California Coastal Act. It allows the California Coastal Commission to authorize blue carbon demonstration projects to demonstrate and quantify the carbon sequestration potential of these projects. These projects can help inform the state's climate resilience strategies. The bill requires nonresidential projects that impact coastal wetlands, subtidal, intertidal, or marine habitats to build or contribute to a blue carbon demonstration project as mitigation for those impacts. This is to help reduce the environmental impact of these projects.
