AB 516: Registered veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants: scope of practice.
This bill aims to expand the scope of practice for registered veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants in California. They will be allowed to perform animal health care services not prohibited by law under the supervision of a veterinarian. Additionally, they will be permitted to provide services on animals in public or private animal shelters, humane societies, or societies for the prevention of cruelty to animals with a veterinarian's order. Registered veterinary technicians will also be authorized to perform dental care procedures, including tooth extractions, under veterinarian supervision.
