AB 562: Foster care: placement: family finding.

California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified December 7, 2025

What AB 562 does, verified December 7, 2025

This bill aims to improve the placement of foster children with relatives. Beginning January 1, 2027, each county will review publicly available data to compare its placement rate with the statewide average, specifically for placements with relatives and for Indian children. If the county's placement rate is lower, the county welfare director will consult with the Center for Excellence in Family Finding, Engagement, and Support to identify best practices to improve placement rates. The bill also requires counties to investigate the circumstances of each child taken into temporary custody and to provide adult relatives with notifications about the child's removal and options for participation in care and placement.
