AB 758: Wildfire: vegetation management.
The bill aims to improve wildfire management by requiring the state or local governments to assess and manage undeveloped public lands for severe fire hazards. The assessment must be conducted every two years starting from 2028 and posted on the internet website. Local entities must also submit their assessments to the department. All public lands must have 200-foot firebreaks on private property borders by 2028. When acquiring private undeveloped land, the department or local entity must create a fire prevention management plan and report the costs of maintaining the land. This information must be posted on the internet website. Reimbursement for costs mandated by the state will be provided if the commission on state mandates determines the bill contains such costs.
