AB 827: Voting: signature verification.
The bill aims to amend certain sections of the Elections Code to improve voting processes. It would reduce deadlines for verifying signatures on mail-in ballots for regularly scheduled statewide elections to 14 calendar days for the elections official to provide notice and 22 calendar days for the voter to verify their signature. For non-scheduled elections, the deadlines would be 8 calendar days before certification for the elections official to provide notice and 2 calendar days before certification for the voter to verify their signature. The bill would also permit the use of vote-by-mail ballot drop boxes to receive verification forms and allow elections officials to compare signatures on unsigned identification statements to those in voter registration records. In non-regularly scheduled elections, the bill would reduce the time required for the official canvass to 6 hours per day.…
