AB 897: Trespassing: removal of trespassers on residential property.

This bill makes it a crime to enter and reside on someone else's property without their permission. It requires law enforcement to issue a citation to those who commit this crime. The person accused can provide proof of lawful entry, but if the proof is deemed fraudulent, they can be punished. The bill imposes a new duty on local law enforcement and creates a crime. The state is not required to reimburse local agencies for certain costs mandated by this bill, but if the commission determines that the bill contains mandated costs, reimbursement will be made.
