AB 924: Leases: termination of tenancy: abuse or violence: security deposit.

This bill would amend the law to require a landlord to pay a calculated share of the security deposit to a tenant who terminates a lease due to abuse or violence, if there are multiple tenants on the lease. The tenant who terminates the tenancy would be entitled to receive this payment. The remaining tenants on the lease would be jointly and severally liable for the calculated share of the security deposit, which they would need to pay to the landlord within 14 days of receiving payment from the terminating tenant. This would ensure that the terminating tenant receives compensation for any security deposit forfeited due to the landlord's actions.
