ABX 16: Forestry: timber operations: maintenance of timberlands for fuels reduction.

This bill aims to reduce noncommercial wildfire fuels in timberland by allowing projects to prepare a timber harvesting plan instead of following the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements. It would enable projects paid for with public funds to avoid CEQA regulations and be regulated as timber operations. The bill also creates a state-mandated local program to oversee these projects. The state is not required to reimburse local agencies and school districts for the costs associated with implementing this program.
