California · Assembly · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified October 6, 2025

What ACA 2 does, verified October 6, 2025

The proposed amendment to the California Constitution would repeal a prohibition on lawmakers accruing a pension or retirement benefit. This measure, known as the Legislative Diversification Act, would require the legislature to establish a retirement system for members elected or serving on or after November 1, 2010. To be eligible for benefits, a member must serve at least 10 years in the legislature. Members who serve fewer than 10 years can transfer their service credit to another public employees' pension or retirement system.
