ACA 7: Government preferences.
This proposed constitutional amendment aims to allow the state of California to grant preferential treatment to certain groups in specific areas. The current state constitution prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in public employment, education, and contracting. The proposed amendment would limit this prohibition to only these three areas, allowing for preferential treatment in the other areas of state government. This change would align the state's constitution with a federal law that allows for affirmative action in higher education admissions and enrollment.
