SB 1180: Plastic Pollution Prevention and Packaging Producer Responsibility Act: California Plastic Pollution Mitigation Fund.
The bill aims to reduce plastic pollution by implementing a comprehensive statutory scheme. Producers of single-use packaging and plastic materials must reduce and recycle covered plastic material and ensure that covered materials sold, distributed, or imported in the state are recyclable or compostable. A California Plastic Pollution Mitigation Fund will be established, with 60% of its moneys spent on reducing environmental justice and public health impacts, and 40% spent on reducing environmental impacts on terrestrial, aquatic, and marine life and human health.
