SB 1266: Crimes: theft.
This bill would amend the current law regarding theft to change the way the value of stolen items is calculated. Currently, the value is determined by the fair market scrap value, but under this bill, the value would be calculated as the full cost to the victim to repair and replace the stolen materials, including labor and equipment. This change would apply to thefts of copper materials valued at more than $950. Additionally, thefts committed against critical infrastructure within a 90-day period would be able to aggregate to meet the $950 threshold. The bill would also require the use of a state-mandated local program.
