SB 1360: Elections: translation of election materials.

California · Senate · 2025–2026 Regular Session · last verified August 22, 2026

What SB 1360 does, verified August 22, 2026

This bill requires the Secretary of State to identify counties where at least 5,000 or 5% of voting-age citizens are limited English proficient and belong to a single language minority group. Elections officials in these identified areas must provide translated election materials such as ballots, voter registration forms, and instructions in applicable languages. The bill also mandates sufficient bilingual election workers for assistance. Additionally, state agencies providing election-related services must translate those materials into relevant languages within the political subdivision. The Secretary of State can require translation into other languages if there is evidence of significant need.
