SB 300: Companion chatbots.
This bill aims to amend the existing laws related to companion chatbots. A companion chatbot operator must issue a clear notification when a user is misled to believe they are interacting with a human. The operator must prevent the production of suicidal ideation, suicide, or self-harm content and publish the protocol on their website. The operator must also prevent the creation of sexually explicit material and take measures to prevent minors from using the chatbot for such purposes. The operator will have constructive knowledge of a user's age if they can reasonably infer it from the user's behavior or other information.
