SB 471: Office of the Developmental Services Ombudsperson.
This bill would repeal existing provisions for an office of the self-determination program ombudsperson and establish a new office of the developmental services ombudsperson as an independent entity within the department. The new office would monitor the implementation of specified services for individuals served by regional centers. The office would disseminate information, provide training and technical assistance, and receive complaints from individuals served by regional centers. The position of the developmental services ombudsperson would be established, with specific appointment procedures and duties. The bill would also prohibit the ombudsperson or their staff from being compelled to testify or disclose certain records in judicial or administrative proceedings, requiring a ⅔ vote of the legislature.
