What SB 493 does, verified August 23, 2026

This bill revises the compensation for fair managers, also known as secretary-managers of district agricultural associations. The compensation will be set by the secretary of food and agriculture, who will conduct a salary survey every 3 years. The initial salary range will remain within existing limits until the first survey. After the first survey, the maximum salary limit will be capped at the highest salary for a comparable position. The bill also requires the secretary to consider the performance and responsibilities of the fair manager when setting the salary range.
