What SB 575 does, verified August 20, 2026

The bill would create a new fund, the California Sea Otter Voluntary Tax Contribution Fund, to support the sea otter population. An individual taxpayer can designate a specified amount in excess of their tax liability to be transferred to the fund on their tax return. The fund would be continuously appropriated and would be established for taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2026, and before January 1, 2033. The provisions would remain operative until January 1, 2033, and the fund would continue to appear on the personal income tax return after the provisions are repealed.
