SB 707: Open meetings: meeting and teleconference requirements.
This bill amends certain sections of the government code relating to local government. Starting July 1, 2026, eligible legislative bodies must include an opportunity for the public to attend via a 2-way telephonic service or a 2-way audiovisual platform in open and public meetings. These bodies must also take actions to encourage residents to participate. By July 1, 2026, they must approve a policy regarding disruptions to telephonic or internet services during meetings. The bill also makes the exception for communications on an internet-based social media platform applicable indefinitely. It requires legislative bodies to make an oral report prior to final action on executive compensation for certain positions.
