SB 751: Veterans and Former First Responders Research Pilot Program.
The bill establishes a research pilot program for veterans and former first responders to study psilocybin services. The program will be conducted in up to 5 counties by local universities, which will oversee protocol design, training, and data collection. Licensed healthcare and community-based providers will partner with the universities to provide services to the target population. Psilocybin will be provided by or under the supervision of a practitioner with experience in psychedelic therapy services. Participants in the program must meet specific criteria, including age and assessment requirements. The program will report to the legislature, secretary of California health and human services, and the governor by January 15, 2030. A special fund will be established to support the program, which can receive grants, donations, and federal funding.
