SB 898: Connected consumer products.
The bill aims to protect consumers of connected consumer products by requiring manufacturers to provide clear support information and updates. A manufacturer must establish and disclose a minimum guaranteed support timeframe, which cannot be reduced. They must also provide a notice to the public and owners when a product reaches its end of life, and offer to replace it with a comparable product capable of receiving necessary updates and support. Businesses that lease or provide connected consumer products as part of a service must ensure timely updates and replacement with a comparable product when the original product reaches its end of life. The bill defines a connected consumer product as any device, application, or cloud infrastructure intended for consumer use and capable of internet connectivity.
