SJR 12: Proposed 2026–2031 National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program: opposition.
This bill would request that the federal bureau of ocean energy management hold public hearings in California to gather input on the proposed national outer continental shelf oil and gas leasing program. The hearings would allow the public to comment on the program and its potential impact on the environment. The bill strongly opposes any new offshore drilling and supports the current federal prohibition on new oil or gas drilling in federal waters offshore of the Pacific Coast. The bill also requests that the bureau prepare an environmental impact statement and a draft programmatic environmental impact statement for potential offshore oil and gas leasing in California.
