What A 1026 does, verified July 2, 2025

The bill aims to improve access to doulas in New York State. It repeals a law that previously restricted doulas from being present in the operating room during cesarean sections. The bill requires maternal health care facilities to post information stating that doulas are allowed to be present during delivery and inpatient care. This information must be available in multiple languages, including English and the six most common non-English languages spoken by individuals with limited English proficiency. The bill also requires facilities to provide informational pamphlets about the availability of doulas in multiple languages. The law takes effect on the same date as another related law, with some provisions taking effect immediately.
