What A 1065 does, verified January 8, 2026
The proposed law requires individuals receiving public assistance to undergo a drug test before receiving any form of assistance. If the test is failed, the person must enroll in a certified drug rehabilitation program and actively participate in it to remain eligible for assistance. The law also allows for the reporting of substance abuse information by healthcare professionals, law enforcement agencies, or courts to the commissioner, who can launch an investigation and withhold public assistance if necessary.
