What A 1076 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed law requires that new vehicle purchases complete a form that authorizes or rejects the placement of a tracking device in the vehicle. This device, approved by the state police, allows law enforcement to track the vehicle if it is reported stolen. The form gives buyers the option to authorize or reject the tracking device and includes authorization for law enforcement to recover the stolen vehicle through various means. If a buyer authorizes the tracking device, the dealer must place it in the vehicle, and law enforcement agencies can access and utilize it only if the vehicle is reported as stolen through an official police report. The law takes effect immediately.
