New York · Assembly · 2025–2026 Legislative Session · last verified January 10, 2026

What A 1097 does, verified January 10, 2026

The proposed law aims to amend the Vehicle and Traffic Law to include specific vehicles as authorized emergency vehicles. These vehicles include ambulances, police vehicles, fire vehicles, and others, as well as vehicles operated by the American Red Cross. The law also creates a new section that specifically defines a Red Cross vehicle, which must be clearly marked and operated by the American Red Cross or its chapters. The law takes effect immediately, allowing these vehicles to exercise the privileges granted under the law without the need for further authorization.
