What A 1117 does, verified January 9, 2026

The bill aims to exempt active volunteer firefighters from jury duty. To claim exemption, a volunteer firefighter must file a form with the appropriate commissioner of jurors, which will exempt them from jury duty as long as they remain a volunteer firefighter. This exemption is valid until the individual stops being a volunteer firefighter. The exemption is made possible by a new section added to the existing law, which allows for the exemption of active volunteer firefighters from jury duty.
