What A 1143 does, verified January 8, 2026

The state of New York is introducing a new law to improve the voting process for military voters. The law establishes an electronic system for military voters to apply for and return their ballots online. This system will allow voters to submit their applications and ballots electronically, which will then be transmitted to the relevant election boards for processing and verification. The law also requires military voters to use a digital signature, which is a certificate-based identification code issued by the US Department of Defense. The law aims to make it easier and more convenient for military voters to participate in elections. It also ensures that all applications and ballots are verified and counted correctly, regardless of how they are submitted. The law will take effect immediately, allowing military voters to start using the new electronic system right away.
