A 1158: Provides that individuals may receive breast cancer screenings under an insurance plan when such individual has a second degree relative with a prior history of breast cancer.
The bill aims to expand breast cancer screening coverage under insurance plans. It allows individuals with a prior history of breast cancer or a first or second-degree relative with a prior history of breast cancer to receive mammograms at any age. These screenings can include breast tomosynthesis. The changes apply to all insurance policies and contracts issued, renewed, modified, or amended on or after the effective date of the bill. The bill takes effect 60 days after it becomes a law, unless chapter 424 of the laws of 2024 has taken effect by then, in which case the changes take effect on the same date.
