This act amends the New York Election Law to prohibit specific election officials from holding financial or managerial roles in political committees related to the elections they oversee. The legislation explicitly forbids any election commissioner from serving as a treasurer or having operational control or managerial influence over a political action committee or independent expenditure committee for a candidate in an election they are supervising. Similarly, the law prevents any board member from serving as a treasurer or having operational control or managerial influence over such committees for a candidate in an election they are overseeing. The terms "political action committee" and "independent expenditure committee" retain their existing definitions found in section 14-100 of the chapter. This act takes effect immediately upon introduction.
