What A 1204 does, verified May 28, 2026

The bill requires certain disclosures and charges by attorneys performing services in connection with a real property tax grievance procedure. It mandates that contracts or retainer agreements between property owners and attorneys include a clear and conspicuous written disclosure in large print format stating that complaints related to assessments can be completed without the assistance of an attorney. The disclosure should provide information on the small claims assessment review process, forms, and assistance available on the New York Courts website and the website for the appropriate municipality where the property is located. This includes providing the website for the assessment review commission in Nassau County and the website for the New York City Tax Commission in New York City. The bill takes effect immediately.
