What A 1260 does, verified January 13, 2026
The bill aims to expand the types of identification that renters insurance companies can accept. Instead of requiring a social security number, insurers can now accept municipal identification cards or other state/local government-issued identification cards. Additionally, insurers can also require a notarized copy of the rental lease signed by the property owner, property management firm, and the insured as proof of identity. This change will take effect immediately.
