What A 135 does, verified January 10, 2026

The bill aims to extend the enhanced star exemption to the disabled surviving spouse of a previously qualifying individual. The exemption will not be rescinded solely due to the death of the older spouse if the surviving spouse is at least sixty-two years old or physically disabled. To qualify as physically disabled, an individual must submit a certified statement from a licensed physician stating that they have a permanent physical impairment. An individual who is legally blind may submit a certificate from the state commission for the visually handicapped instead of a physician's statement. The exemption will take effect immediately and apply to the 2025-2026 school year.
