What A 1365 does, verified October 10, 2025

The proposed law requires nursing homes to designate a dedicated storage space for the bodies of deceased persons. The storage space must be located on or adjacent to the nursing home grounds, isolated from public view, and sufficiently refrigerated. The space must also be of sufficient size and suitable construction to handle and store bodies safely. If the nursing home cannot meet these requirements, it may contract with a third party to provide mobile storage spaces. The law also requires nursing homes to maintain accurate records of the storage and transfer of bodies for a period of five years, including documentation of death certificates, transfers, and permits. The law takes effect on the 60th day after it becomes law.
