What A 1392 does, verified June 6, 2026

The state of New York is requiring the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to develop recommendations for establishing microgrids. Microgrids are groups of interconnected loads and energy resources within clearly defined electrical boundaries that can operate independently of the grid. The authority must consider the establishment of microgrids at critical facilities such as hospitals, emergency shelters, and schools. The recommendations must also take into account areas of severe storm damage and disadvantaged communities. The authority will submit its final report to the governor, the temporary president of the senate, and the speaker of the assembly within one year. The act will take effect immediately.
