What A 1455 does, verified September 11, 2025

The bill aims to amend the not-for-profit corporation law to exempt the South Onondaga Fire Department from the requirement that the percentage of non-resident members not exceed forty-five percent of the membership. The exemption is granted to allow non-resident members to be elected or appointed to fire departments in certain towns, as long as the town board consents to the formation of the fire corporation. Non-resident members are eligible to be elected or appointed to offices in the fire corporation, but they cannot perform any firefighting duties outside the state unless they receive specific authorization. The bill also sets forth specific exceptions for certain fire departments in certain towns, allowing them to have non-resident members with a higher percentage. The provisions of the bill take effect immediately.
