What A 1495 does, verified January 8, 2026

The proposed law requires all new public buildings constructed after January 1, 1991, with areas of public assembly or service, to have an induction loop listening system installed to improve the reception of sound for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. This system is a hardwired assistive listening system that produces a signal, received directly by hearing aids and cochlear implants equipped with telecoil features. The system must be functional and certified by the state fire prevention and building code council on a biennial basis. The law also requires the posting of signage to indicate the availability of the induction loop listening system to visitors. The state fire prevention and building code council is responsible for updating and amending applicable building and fire codes to carry out the provisions of the law. The law takes effect seven months after it becomes a law.
