What A 1507 does, verified January 8, 2026

The bill aims to amend the social services law to require local social services districts to pay shelter allowances equal to the actual rent obligation of recipients, up to one hundred percent of the current fair market rent as of the date of issuance. This change ensures that shelter allowances are set at a level that covers the actual cost of housing, rather than a predetermined amount. The bill would take effect thirty days after it becomes a law.
