What A 1566 does, verified May 11, 2026

The bill aims to enhance voter affirmation and integrity in New York State. It requires a statement to be printed on the envelopes of ballots for early mail voters, absentee voters, and special presidential voters. The statement confirms the voter's citizenship, registration, and eligibility to vote in their district, and declares that they have not committed any acts or impediments that deny them the right to vote. Voters who make false statements on these envelopes may be guilty of a misdemeanor. The bill also requires voters to sign their name on the envelope and provides a witness signature section for voters who do not sign their own name. The affirmations are printed on the envelopes and must be signed by the voter, with the option for a witness signature if necessary. The bill takes effect one year after it becomes a law.
